ACL 52702 - Growth and Development in Sports


A key component in this course is gaining knowledge about the typical course of physical, mental, and psycho-social development of players. Coaches will study differences in body structure, understand basic movement capabilities and biomechanics, and set performance goals that reflect developmental readiness. Information about cognitive development and appropriate expectations for children who are involved in the sport will be included. Coaches will become aware of the psychological and sociological challenges related to peer pressure, body image, and self-esteem issues for players of different ages.
