COM 10103 - Introduction to Communication


This course introduces students to the various forms of communication. It provides an overview of the basic concepts of communication and the communicative skills needed to navigate various contexts. Emphasis will be placed on communication theories, processes and techniques used in interpersonal, intercultural, group, organizational, health, and mediated communication. The course will help students answer several about the field of communication studies, such as: What is communication? How does it occur? Where does it occur? Why does it matter? How do we study it? In answering these questions, the course introduces students to major issues in the field of communication, and to the main areas of focus in this program.
