NUR 11203 - Nursing Transitions

This transition course is specifically designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) entering the LPN to RN bridge program at the University of Rio Grande-Holzer School of Nursing. Building upon the foundational knowledge and skills acquired during the LPN/LVN educational process, this course will guide students through the critical transition to the role of a Registered Nurse (RN). The course emphasizes professional concepts, and the enhanced scope of practice required to perform at the RN level. Students will be introduced to the University’s Philosophy and Conceptual Framework, which serves as the cornerstone for nursing practice and education within the program. Additionally, the course will explore the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and the ANA Code of Ethics, ensuring that students understand and apply ethical principles and clinical standards in their nursing practice. A key component of this course is the ATI Launch program, which is designed to enhance student success and prepare nursing students for the challenges of the RN role. Each student is assigned an ATI Educator who will guide them through the 6-week program from start to finish. The program helps students build confidence as they move through each module, gaining foundational knowledge in areas such as anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, nursing math basics, and student success skills. After completing Launch, nursing students can continue to refer to the platform for ongoing academic support, ensuring they have the resources they need for continued success throughout their educational journey. Other key components of this course include an in-depth exploration of the Nursing Process, the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM), and effective test-taking strategies, all designed to better prepare students for the transition to the Registered Nurse (RN) role.
