NUR 22805 - Med/Surg III/Peds II, Part I This course introduces nursing students to the roles and responsibilities of the associate degree registered nurse in caring for adult and pediatric patients across various healthcare settings. The medical-surgical theory component focuses on providing nursing care to adult patients with endocrine and hematology/oncology-related conditions. Growth and developmental concepts are further explored, with a special emphasis on the care of older adults. The pediatric theory component offers a comprehensive overview of common pediatric illnesses and conditions. Students will examine the etiology, clinical management, and nursing interventions for acute and chronic conditions. Emphasis is placed on age-appropriate care, pediatric dosage calculations, and addressing the physiological and developmental needs of pediatric patients. The course incorporates family-centered care, health promotion, illness prevention strategies, and patient education. Throughout the course, students will continue to apply the nursing process, Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (CJMM), communication and collaboration skills, use of technology, teaching-learning strategies, and legal and ethical principles supported by evidence-based practice. The clinical component provides students with hands-on experience in acute care settings, where they will deliver nursing care to both adult and pediatric patients, integrating theory with practice.
