NUR 21202 - Pharmacology

The theory content of this course provides a foundational understanding of pharmacological principles and their application in nursing practice. Students will explore medication classifications, mechanisms of action, therapeutic effects, and potential side effects encountered in clinical settings. Additional topics include the effects of medications across the lifespan, substance abuse, immunizations, over-the-counter medications, herbal and dietary supplements, and medication drip calculations. Emphasis is placed on patient teaching and education to promote safe and effective medication management. This course prepares nursing students to apply pharmacological knowledge in diverse healthcare settings and develop skills necessary for safe medication administration and patient-centered care.
